Lord in Your Mercy, Hear our Prayers – Dr. Usama Riaz, MD

Dr. Usama Riaz, MD, isn’t a name we’re hearing about in the U.S. media, but it’s a name we should know. The 26 year old Pakistani doctor died of complications of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), last Friday. Without access to proper personal protective equipment (face mask’s, etc.), he continued to work around the clock tending to the needs of invected Pakistani’s.

His selfless acts of compassion no doubt brought comfort to those in his care affected by the virus.

Though we are of different faiths, my God has commanded me to love my neighbors, even those I have and will never meet. Jesus told us to not only visit the sick, but to tend to them as well.

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40

While I am unfamiliar with Dr. Riaz’ religious teachings, I do know he met the religious tests of my religion. His acts of compassion should serve as an inspiration and example for all of us.
