This past week I was invited to the men’s breakfast at Spring Branch Community Church in Virginia Beach, VA. This mornings breakfast was attended by more than 50 men from Spring Branch, and several other churches. The guest speaker today was my Emmaus brother, James White. James is an Elder at Spring Branch and was asked to speak on Consecration.
To “consecrate” yourself essentially means to wholly dedicate yourself to something of greatest important. When spoken plainly, however, “consecration” refers to the act of setting yourself aside and dedicating yourself to God.
James spoke about the fears we might have in consecrating ourselves to God. The fear of leave behind the people in our lives that are not walking with Christ, or those who literally are a bad influence in our lives and those things we do that might hold us down. Breaking free of those “things” are necessary in our growth as Christian’s.
The morning kicked off with the arrival of the men. The men of Spring Branch are welcoming and very hospitable. Usually when you walk into a new church setting you might feel a bit apprehensive about not knowing anyone. In this case I was greeted by around 20 Emmaus brothers. It was awesome seeing so many familiar faces.
Following a short prayer, we ate well. The men of Spring Branch put on an incredible breakfast. The discussions at the tables were lively and God centered. After breakfast we were treated to music and then James’ talk. The morning was a great opportunity for men and brothers to gather in the name of Christ for food, fellowship, music and message.
I haven’t attended a Sunday service at Spring Branch yet, but knowing a number of the men there, and meeting many more this morning, it is clear this church is Christ centered and moving forward with Christ like action.
Spring Branch Community Church is located at 1500 N Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Sunday services are at 9am and 11am.
